Nintendo has announced that the Switch 2 will play games made for the original console. Even though the company still hasn't officially announced the device, it’s been dropping hints about what the successor to the Switch will have to offer for nearly a year now.
In addition to being compatible with the original Switch, the Switch 2 will also carry over Nintendo Switch Online.
"At today’s Corporate Management Policy Briefing, we announced that Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch," Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said on X. "Nintendo Switch Online will be available on the successor to Nintendo Switch as well.”
“Further information about the successor to Nintendo Switch, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date,” he added.
It’s unclear whether the Switch 2 will have a dedicated port for game cartridges or if the original games will be available through a digital download.
