Billionaire fashion designer Tom Ford has purchased a mansion in London's Chelsea neighborhood for a whopping $104 million USD (£80 million GBP), according to Bloomberg's sources.

The home became the most expensive residence to sell in the UK this year after the deal reportedly closed this summer. Notably, the former owner bought the mansion for approximately $20 million USD (£16 million GBP) almost 20 years ago.

Ford's London home is the latest addition to his real estate empire, which presently includes homes in New York, Los Angeles, Aspen, Palm Beach and the Hamptons worth over $250 million USD (£191 million GBP), according to property records secured via MSN.

The prolific designer, who served as Gucci's creative director before founding his own label with former Gucci CEO Domenico De Sole in 2005, sold his namesake brand to Estée Lauder in a deal valued at $2.8 billion USD (£2.1 billion GBP) in November of 2022. The sale pushed Ford's net worth upwards of $2 billion USD (£1.5 billion GBP).

Rumors of Ford’s departure reached new heights following the sale’s closure — and after the tragic passing of his partner, Richard Buckley, in 2021, many felt that it could offer the designer a moment for himself.

After 13 years at the helm of his eponymous brand, Ford officially stepped down as creative director in April of last year, bidding farewell to fashion with his final collection for Fall 2023. His brand is now led by Haider Ackermann, who took the creative director's chair in September following Peter Hawkings' brief stint in the role.
