And Postecoglou, speaking ahead of their FA Cup third-round tie away to Tamworth on Saturday, gave an update on the Spurs star's condition.

“Good news. He was in hospital, he did all the tests in terms of making sure everything is OK," the Australian boss said. "Yes, all good. He is back home and is fine and feeling good. We will obviously follow the protocol."

Postecoglou confirmed that Bentancur will be unavailable for selection as Spurs adhere to the FA's concussion protocols.

They state that "concussion should be managed with a short period of relative rest followed by a gradual return to normal activities as symptoms allow."

The Spurs boss confirmed that Bentancur did suffer a concussion following the ordeal but predicted he will be able to return in two weeks' time.

"It’s obviously a couple of weeks [out] where you just make sure everything is OK," Postecoglou said. "Thankfully, it looks like a concussion but nothing more than that.”

Spurs became only the second team to beat Liverpool this season after securing victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, despite having to play on following Bentancur's frightening incident.

His team-mate Pedro Porro was one of the first players to react and rush to his side just seconds after he fell to the ground. And Postecoglou paid tribute to his players' character in sealing an unexpected win.

“All good, guys! Thank you for the messages!!! Congratulations for the victory boys!!! ????????????”

"It was pretty distressing at the time, seeing him go down like that, for the players. Dealing with adversity, these players just compose themselves and responded to it really well."

Bentancur sought to reassure fans that he is on the road to recovery by posting an update on his social media profile, uploading an image of himself from his hospital bed.

He wrote on his Instagram Story: "All good, guys! Thank you for the messages!!! Congratulations [for] the victory boys!!!"

Postecoglou does have several replacements available while Bentancur is out, with James Maddison, Yves Bissouma and match-winner Lucas Bergvall all in contention to deputise alongside Pape Matar Sarr in central midfield.
