BBC Bargain Hunt viewers disappointed as they brand experts 'hopeless' over loss

Bargain Hunt: Host brands situation 'awkward' during red team tensions

Bargain Hunt viewers were left disappointed once again as the show aired another discouraging loss.

The weekly BBC show returned to screens on Wednesday (January 8) for another nail-biting episode with presenter Charlie Ross at the helm.

Experts Caroline Hawley and David Harper joined Charles to assist the red team, which consisted of mother-daughter duo Sarah and Zara, and the blue team, which included father-son pairing, Richard and Mattie.

Set in Newark-on-Trent, the show delivered a promising start as the red and blue team went head-to-head in the ultimate antique resell challenge.

But later in the programme, as each pair chose three items to take to auction to hopefully make a profit, things went downhill.

The red team, assisted by expert Caroline, unfortunately lost at auction with the items that they chose.

However, when Caroline added a solid silver table stick to the mix, it only sold for £50 at the auction despite the fact that she had paid £70 for it.

With a total loss of -£129, host Charles encouraged the pair and reminded the red team that a loss had been a previous winning score.

But the blue team failed to do much better, with a total loss of -£35, which led Charles to label the results a "sumptuous" loss.

As fans watched on, many couldn't help but mention their utter disappointment with the results. Heading over to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan said: "That was underwhelming."

Another said: "That's not a result." A third shared: "Think that's a rare bonus buy that doesn't make a profit."

Meanwhile, another took aim at the experts and said: "Hopeless pair of experts."

But this wasn't the only aspect that left fans annoyed. Many also pointed out that the episode was repeat which likely took place during Covid.

One viewer expressed displeasure, saying: "Not another one of these stupid COVID/Social distancing episodes."

Another viewer echoed the same sentiment and fumed: "Another f*****g covid repeat.... How many of these shows did they film ffs."

Bargain Hunt airs weekdays at 12:15pm on BBC One.
