Beabadoobee has shared her opinions on creating perfect songs, declaring that she would rather have her music be imperfect.

“I think about beauty standards and how people botch their faces to be perfect,” she told the publication. “They lose their uniqueness. I feel like itâs the same with music. You want to hear the missteps, because thatâs what makes it special.”
After being asked about what may be the equivalent to a button nose in music, Beabadoobee â real name Beatrice Laus â shared: “Well, I donât want it! Letâs keep it crooked.”
She continued: “Maybe Iâm writing a song and it doesnât follow the exact rules of songwriting. Or maybe this word doesnât make sense next to this one, but thatâs how I speak. Thatâs why people relate to my music.”
The ‘Talk’ singer also opened up about how writing music helps her “soothe [her] inner child.”
“I canât do that when I write my diary or indulge in bad things, but writing a song is the purest form of art and emotion to me,” she explained and went on to admit that she used to “cringe” when she would listen to her 2020 debut LP ‘Fake It Flowers‘.
“I couldnât listen to it! I have a lot of empathy for myself today â like, ‘Awh, bless you! Youâre going to be fine, Bea!’,” she said. “[Now] I see a younger girl going through this very necessary bit of life. I went through that shit for a lot of people to see. I wouldnât be the person I am today without it, and it makes me appreciate that part of my life.”
Beabadoobee’s most recent release was her third album ‘This Is How Tomorrow Moves‘. In a four-star review of the LP, NME shared: “[‘Girl Song’] is a heart-wrenching song, filled with a multitude of complex and often contradictory emotions, the knotty realities of young womanhood laid bare. Thatâs something that shines through the whole of âThis Is How Tomorrow Movesâ â Beabadoobeeâs knack for capturing the twists and turns of growing into yourself with relatable candour. A collection of songs that showcase the tangled feelings of this time, the young artistâs third record is a poignant, powerful thing.”
The album landed the 50th spot on NME‘s 50 Best Albums Of 2024 list, with journalist Hannah Mylrea noting: “Beabadoobeeâs third album is a beautiful thing. She continues to document her coming of age through music, her journey of becoming a woman playing out through brilliant indie rock imbued with jazzy folk (âReal Manâ) and slacker rock (âBeachesâ). Itâs all grounded by the throughline of Beabadoobeeâs stellar lyricism and storytelling.”
In other news, the ‘Perfect Pair’ singer is set to perform as a supporting act at Sabrina Carpenter’s headlining 2025 BST Hyde Park show. She is also slated to perform at Laneway festival next summer.
