Antiques Roadshow star shares 'relentless' cancer update as she restarts treatment

Antiques Roadshow: Guest floored by item’s true purpose

Antiques Roadshow star Theo Burrell has issued an update on her battle with cancer as she "restarts" treatment for her brain tumour.

Theo Burrell, 37, expressed her feelings about the treatment, describing it as making her feel "awful." She shared that it leaves her feeling "immunocompromised," which adds to her struggles, especially during this season when colds and other illnesses are more prevalent.

The combination of her weakened immune system and the increase in airborne bugs during this time makes everyday life particularly challenging for her right now. She typed on Instagram: "It's been a really nice few days over the festive period, but today is the big day - restarting treatment.

"This afternoon I'm off to The Western General in Edinburgh to collect my Temozolomide tablets, and I begin the first of potentially 12 rounds.

"I know that (unfortunately) I'm in good company, with many, many patients pushing through their treatment plans as I write this."

Since her diagnosis, Theo has been remarkably candid with her followers on social media, sharing the challenges and struggles she faces in her ongoing battle with this aggressive form of cancer. Her openness has garnered immense support from her audience, who have rallied around her during this difficult journey.

She wrote on social media at the time: "It's with some heartbreak that I can confirm my glioblastoma has started regrowing. Although this was always an inevitability, it has been a difficult couple of weeks for me and my family, as we deal with the news and await a treatment plan.

"I am extremely grateful for having had such a good quality of life over the last two years, and I intend to take on the next step of my journey with everything I've got."

After undergoing surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy since her diagnosis, doctors will come up with a new treatment plan. The mother-of-one was told that without treatment, she would have only three months to live.

"It sucks. It's relentless, it makes you feel awful, and you can't do a whole bunch of things because you're immunosuppressed - but there is some comfort in being in it together. And I'm very grateful I have this option still open to me.

"So to all of you out there wading through treatment - I'm joining your gang, if you'll have me?! Let's show these cancer cells the door!"

Theo, a prominent figure in the television industry, was initially diagnosed with stage four glioblastoma in June 2022.

This serious diagnosis came after she experienced a series of severe migraines that raised alarms, prompting her medical team to conduct thorough examinations.

Dan Knowles, chief executive of Brain Tumour Research, said: "Theo has become a much-valued and important part of our family and is highly regarded for her unwavering commitment to drive change in the future for others."

"She is a fantastic patron who has developed a deep bond with countless patients and families I know will now offer their support and love at this challenging time. Our hearts go out to Theo and her family and friends as she takes this next step in her journey."
