Outlander's Sam Heughan and Catriona Balfe 'almost drowned' filming romantic scene

Outlander season 7 part 2 trailer on STARZ

Caitriona Balfe, the leading lady of Outlander who portrays Claire Fraser, recently shed light on her taxing experiences during filming.

She discussed the numerous emotionally charged reunion scenes with co-star Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser and has been her on-screen spouse for over a decade.

As Outlander navigates through its seventh season based on Diana Gabaldon's novels, fans eagerly anticipate the forthcoming eighth and final series expected to air by the end of next year, reports the Daily Record.

With part 2 of season 7 on the horizon, Caitriona opened up in an interview with She Knows about the challenges she faces, particularly when running towards Jamie for their on-screen embraces after heartbreaking separations

Caitriona recounted: "Weirdly, they don't go wrong that much, although Sam is just so big and strong that quite often, I'll run into him, and it's literally like hitting a brick wall."

She added humorously: "So, I usually get a bit winded. I'm always like, 'Oh God, ugh! ' [mimics running into Heughan], which you just make look like pangs of passion. I don't know, again, it's just that weird thing that we've been doing it so long that it just sort of seems second nature."

When pressed about her favourite reunion scene, Caitriona chose the iconic beach dash from the third season, saying: "I mean, just because it's so... kind of cliche, but kind of amazing, and you always sort of want to do one of them in your life, but the running on the beach in season 3!"

Behind the romantic on-screen chemistry of Outlander's leads, a not-so-glamorous reality unfolded during a photoshoot when Caitriona revealed they "did almost get drowned".

Describing the harrowing moment, she said: "We did almost get drowned, as well. I can't remember exactly, there was a photo shoot where we sort of replicated it."

Elaborating on the soggy incident, the actress shared: "And in one or the other, we were having the kiss, and then we were on the beach, and then the tide was coming in, so we were getting washed and splattered. But yeah, that one has to be the most obvious romantic one."

Amidst this revelation, Outlander enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the next developments as the 14th episode of season 7, 'Ye Dinna Get Used to It', premiered today, setting the stage for the much-anticipated season finale.
