Govt values family well-being highly, says CE

Chief Executive John Lee on Friday said the well-being of families is deeply valued by his administration, and that it strives to build a harmonious society for all. Giving the opening address for the Asian Family Summit 2024, the CE underscored the government's commitment to working with different stakeholders to cultivate a pro-family environment. “Our latest initiatives, in partnership with the Family Council, include supporting the community in launching family education projects of an extended scope. We will also organise the Hong Kong Excellence Family Awards next year to promote good family values among the general public,” he said in a video message. “As announced in my Policy Address this October, we will strengthen parental education by setting up new community parents and children centres in different parts of the city.” The chief executive added that the Social Welfare Department’s care teams are also well-trained to identify and reach out to households in need. Lee stressed that building a more caring and inclusive society for all families requires the effort of not only the government, but also all sectors of the community. He thanked organisers of the summit for assembling people who are dedicated to the healthy development of families. The summit runs until Sunday, bringing together some 700 participants from professional groups, academia, NGOs and the public to discuss challenges faced by families and review existing policies.
