A New 'The Mummy' Film Is in the Works

A new film in The Mummy universe is officially in the works over at New Line.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming installment is set to release on April 17, 2026 and will be written and helmed by Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin. Plot details remain under wraps as of writing, but fans of the franchise can expect the filmmaker "to breathe modern life into ageless evil." A cast is yet to be announced.

Cronin's Doppelgängers banner, Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are set to produce alongside James Wan, Jason Blum and John Keville. Michael Clear, Judson Scott and Macdara Kelleher will serve as executive producers.

The first film in The Mummy IP dates back to 1932 from Karl Freund, but returned to popularity in the late '90s to early '00s thanks to Brendan Fraser's trilogy the released in 1999, 2001 and 2008. An attempt to reincarnate the franchise took place in 2017 with Tom Cruise, but failed to meet critical and commercial expectations. The return of these characters in the new film are unconfirmed as of writing.

The new The Mummy film premieres April 17, 2026.
