F&B revenues rise, retail drops in October
Receipts from restaurants and similar establishments in Macau rose by 6.8% month-on-month in October 2024, largely due to the National Day holidays, according to the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
Chinese restaurants saw a 10.6% increase, while Western restaurants reported an 8.6% rise. However, Japanese and Korean restaurants experienced a 1% decline in receipts. Retail sales also surged, with an impressive 28.6% month-on-month increase, particularly in adults’ clothing (+45.6%) and leather goods (+39.5%).
Year-on-year comparisons reveal a contrasting picture. Restaurant receipts fell by 1.8% compared to October 2023, with Chinese restaurants down 5.8% but Japanese and Korean establishments up by 9.4%.
This sentiment is echoed by 66% of Chinese restaurant operators predicting lower earnings. In retail, 42% expect a sales drop, particularly among leather goods and jewelry retailers. LV
