The Squid Game frenzy is set to grip fans once again as the countdown begins for the highly anticipated second season - which is now just mere days away.

Ahead of the show's return, Lee Jung-jae, who plays Seong Gi-hun, has been sending viewers' hearts racing with his hints about what's in store.

With the new series picking up three years after its hair-raising conclusion, Player 456 abandons his American dream and resolves to re-enter the ominous game equipped with a new resolve. This time around, he's facing life or death amongst a fresh cohort of contestants vying for the staggering 45.6 billion won prize.

However, the path ahead is tangled with unexpected twists and turns. At the star-studded Los Angeles premiere on December 12, Jung-jae gave PEOPLE a sneak peek into the future, revealing that the "new games" are what excite him the most about the upcoming season.

He shared tantalising insights about the impending episodes slated for release on December 26, promising an enthralling mix of alliance and rivalry.

"I can tell you for sure that you're in for even more surprises, because there are games within games, and I call them psychological warfare," Jung-jae disclosed. "We have so much of them in season 1. So at one time, you'll be enemies, the two will be enemies, and then the other time, they will be friends. So you don't know what's going to happen.", reports The Mirror.
