ITV I'm A Celeb's Danny Jones dealt huge blow as unexpected favourite could boot him out

I'm a Celebrity star Danny Jones has faced a setback just a week into his jungle journey.

The McFly star, 38, who was once a favourite to win, has seen his chances fade as newcomers Maura Higgins and Reverend Richard have taken the spotlight.

"His odds have dropped recently, and he's now priced at 8/11 to win," says betting site Betfred.

Betfred’s Kayley Cornelius continued: “Danny Jones is desperately clinging onto his frontrunner spot to be the next winner of the jungle, but with a new fan favourite quickly gaining ground in the betting markets, his position is now under threat.

“Hot on Danny’s heels is Richard Coles, now priced at a competitive 3/1, many are starting to believe he could be the dark horse of the series. Despite being a latecomer, the Reverend has certainly won over fans and viewers at home.

It comes just a day after the singer's mum touched down in Australia, eagerly anticipating the moment she'll welcome her son on the iconic I'm a Celebrity bridge.

Danny is competing in the 2024 series of the ITV show alongside well-known stars including Coleen Rooney, Tulisa Contostavlos, boxing champion Barry McGuigan, DJ Melvin Odoom, and podcast star GK Barry​. He has participated in a number of gruelling challenges including ones with spiders, cockroaches, snakes, and green ants.

Danny's mum Kathy has been open about her surprise at one unexpected side of her son's time in the jungle. Watching her musician son on the show has been an emotional rollercoaster for her, and while she's firmly backing him to win the ITV series.

After chatting with the Mirror in Brisbane, Kathy couldn't help but chuckle over Danny's apparent aversion to washing his underwear.

She remarked: "That's unusual for him. He's really clean. He's really hygienic. It's really unusual for him."

Kathy also recounted the poignant moments that moved her to tears as she watched her son grapple with challenges. "I was laughing watching him with the snake down his trousers and then the next day I was crying.

"It was different emotions. I just wanted to hug him. You don't want to see your kids upset. It got me a bit. I am so proud of him... I think he could win and do it for the North."
