Born X Raised Celebrates 10 Years of Sadie Hawkins Winter Formal
While culture in Los Angeles can feel timeless, Born X Raised has reached the 10th anniversary of its Sadie Hawkins Winter Formal. Hosted at the historic Hollywood Roosevelt, this year's edition highlights the dance party's best traditions: friends of the brand, a double photo booth and the logo's iconic "X" motif.
"X" marks ten years of redefining the city's nightlife, as well as ten years of collaboration with the city's creative and celebrity figures. "Sadie's is an iconic happening in LA, it's amazing that it's still around," says Kerwin Frost. Sadie's will always have a formal dress code-- spotted on celebrity guests like YG, Nadia Lee Cohen and more-- and proclamations of love for Spanto when considering the brand's legacy.
This year's programming includes a private release of collaborative Nike Cortez sneakers and a wedding chapel activation, where guests could 'formally' tie the knot. But, the energy around Sadie's focuses more on a community-centric type of love than traditional romantic notions. A longtime friend of Born X Raised notes that people don't really follow the Sadie's tradition of getting asked, instead he felt like "we all just pulled up."
2Tone, a co-founder of Born X Raised, looks back at the first-ever Sadie's and recalls that it was "very intimate and warm, and we knew everyone." As the party's notoriety has grown, so have the massive crowds at the venue's entrance. "Thank you for braving the line, and apologies for the people that got stuck," adds 2Tone, "The fire marshals were being extra tough this year."
