Strictly Come Dancing's Wynne Evans and  Katya Jones left viewers gobsmacked as they ended their dance performance in a very unusual way.

During Icons Week, the first ever aired on the series, Wynne and Katya paid tribute to Shirley Bassey in a Rumba to This is My Life.

The emotional dance ended in a dramatic fashion as Wynne suddenly stopped dancing and began singing, leaving viewers gobsmacked.

Wynne and Katya's controversial decision got a mixed response as fans raged it was a "dancing competition, not a singing competition".

One fan said: "Second week in a row Katya danced around a barely moving Wynne...and singing is not dancing."

Another added: "Wynne singing over and over again in a DANCING competition really was not required."

A third chimed in: "I'm sorry this isn’t a singing competition. how is it fair that wynne gets to sing at the end?? always giving him new rules & special treatment."

A fourth raged: "Wynne singing at the end is gonna make the judges overmark him as always."

The pair hinted at their performance as they issued a joint announcement as they shared a video with fans just an hour before taking to the stage.

Wynne quickly shared a video just an hour before the live show as he urged viewers to tune in for a "Strictly first".

Speaking backstage, Wynne said: "Backstage at Strictly. We haven't changed yet obviously," as he pointed out Katya was still in her dressing gown.

Katya chimed in: "Do you know what is happening tonight? Strictly first. This is Strictly's first tonight from us."

Wynne said: "Be sure to watch us, we're early on."

Wynne's urgent message to his followers comes after he has been tipped to leave the show next. Lee Astley from betideas.com commented: "Wynne Evans has certainly been in the Strictly spotlight for the past couple of weeks but we reckon this weekend's show could be the Welsh singer's last dance in the series.

"Evans is 9/4 to be the next contestant to leave the programme, putting him only narrowly behind Shayne Ward in the betting."

Even Wynne shared his concerns about the performance, as he said in a video earlier this week: "Rumba I'm enjoying but I don't know if I'm doing it right. I've got concerns about the hips. The hips, the hips, the hips."

Katya reassured fans, commenting: "The hips are getting looser. Wynne's got beautifully shaped long legs so if we can put the legs with the hips, it'll be perfection. Can we get there by Saturday, who knows?"

In a candid Instagram Q&A, Wynne also discussed his rumba jitters, saying: "I don't know. I don't look at what's coming up. I just have to focus on getting through this week. I'm now the oldest and the fattest, so the fact I've made it this far is incredible.

"Just focus on this week and getting through this week and then we'll see if I'm there next week. There's a lot of hips in the rumba, I may have actually discovered where my hips are."
