ITV GMB's Kate Garraway and Adil Ray under fire in 'clueless' Darren Jones Budget probe
Adil Ray and Kate Garraway came under fire from fans on today's Good Morning Britain. The ITV show welcomed on Labour's Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Darren Jones, with viewers at home bashing the presenters for not giving him enough of a grilling.
They were discussing the budget, which was released earlier this week, as Rachel Reeves announced a number of financial changes for the country including £40 billion tax rises. Questioning the guest MP, Kate described the budget as "tough", "painful", and a "tough pill to swallow".
Mr Jones responded by saying that the Labour is fully committed to not increasing income tax or national insurance rates for employees and that promise will not be broken by this government.
However, fans at home felt that Kate and Adil's line of questioning was not harsh enough, considering that the budget was having a negative impact on so many people. Taking to social media, viewers shared their frustrations.
One user on X/Twitter wrote: "Darren Jones having to explain basics to someone who just can't grasp the basics. Inheritance Tax is payable on inheritance, Kate."

At least know the full facts before interviewing somebody so articulate and knowledgeable from the Treasury. Deary me!!!!!#EpicFail."
A third penned: "@GMB How refreshing this morning that SKY gave Darren Jones a proper grilling even getting him to admit working people will be hit by budget compared to the Butt licking drivel by GMB of Labour supporting Adil Ray 'illuminating'."

He's a lightweight. He and Ed Balls should not be fronting your show. #GMB."
Elsewhere, over on the BBC, the MP also made an appearance on BBC Breakfast, where he faced questioning from Maga Munchetty.

The presenter asked Mr Jones about care homes and whether they would be exempt from tax hikes and changes in employer national insurance.
She asked: "So care homes which we know provide an essential service becasue the social care they're not exempt? So anyone who owns a care home now, which is picking up from the NHS, looking after people who need it they are not exempt, they should be preparing right now for these extra rises?"
Darren clarified: "They're not exempt because they're not a public sector organisations but we have increased through councils for social care by £600 million at this budget and recognised that we’ve got more work to do on how we reform and improve social care across the country."
