Ruben Amorim 'puts four Man Utd stars up for sale' as January transfer plans take shape
It seems Ruben Amorim won’t be wasting any time at Manchester United following reports he will immediately put four first-team players up for sale. Less than 48 hours after Erik ten Hag was sacked on Monday, it was confirmed the club had agreed a deal with the Sporting boss to take over.
However, despite United meeting the release clause in his contract, Amorim had previously agreed to a 30-day notice period meaning Ruud van Nistelrooy will remain in temporary charge until at least next month.
But in the meantime, the 39-year-old is set to continue talks with INEOS over his plans to address United’s erratic form.

According to TEAMtalk, Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof, Casemiro and Antony could all now be sold in January.
The departures of Eriksen and Lindelof, the latter was brought to the club by Jose Mourinho in 2019 for a £29.5million fee, shouldn’t prove difficult to get sanctioned. Both players are out of contract at the end of the season, with the Swedish defender in particular having struggled for form and fitness in the past two seasons.

The Dane has made 11 appearances this season, but mainly due to Kobbie Mainoo's injury and the perception that Manuel Ugarte still needs time to settle in England.

The potential sales of Casemiro and Antony are likely to spark deep discussions with the club hierarchy though. After his underwhelming form last season, the Brazilian turned in a disastrous display against Liverpool in September, throwing fresh doubts on his future.
But he showed his worth in the first game since Ten Hag’s departure, scoring a stunning opener in the 5-2 League Cup win over Leicester on Wednesday. He later scored again and the 32-year-old is contracted until the summer of 2026, with the club likely to want a sizeable fee having paid Real Madrid £60m for his services in 2022.
Antony’s apparent imminent departure will come as no surprise to fans though. Since his £82m switch from Ajax, also in the summer of 2022, the winger’s time in England has been plagued by poor performances - but he may need to be persuaded to take a big cut on his current £200,000-a-week-wages.

He’s played just twice in the Premier League in the 2024/25 campaign, and is unquestionably Ten Hag’s most maligned signing. Amorim is already said to be in favour of bringing Marcus Edwards with him from Sporting as a replacement, with the wide man also a reported target for Liverpool.
Amorim’s preference for a 3-4-3 formation means change at United will be inevitable once he does take the reins. How much money he’s given to spend in January remains to be seen however, after the club splashed out more than £170 million on new players in the last transfer window.
