The Dune franchise is expanding rapidly, with the latest instalment, Dune: The Prophecy, securing a release date of November 17. The news was revealed at New York Comic Con, accompanied by a first-look trailer, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the new series.

This prequel series is set 10,000 years prior to the events of the two Dune films and promises an exhilarating experience. The narrative revolves around two Harkonnen sisters as they battle forces threatening humanity's future and establish the legendary sect that will eventually become the Bene Gesserit.

The series boasts an impressive cast, including Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Jodhi May, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Shalom Brune-Franklin, and Faoileann Cunningham. The six-episode HBO series will premiere on Max on its scheduled November date.

Following the announcement and trailer release, fans have taken to social media to share their reactions, with many expressing their excitement and admiration, reports the Mirror.

A Reddit user added: "A HBO series focused only on the political games and machinations of the Dune universe? Sign me the f*** in. Loved Villeneuve's movies but this was an aspect I felt was sorely missing from them. Hopefully the writing is on par for the presentation."

Dune: Part One hit the big screens in 2021 and was a massive hit, raking in $407 million from a $165 million budget.

Lead actors Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya reprised their roles for Dune: Part Two, hailed as "one of the most brilliant sci-fi films" by Steven Spielberg, which premiered earlier this year and shattered all records of the first film, amassing $714.4 million globally.

A further sequel based on Frank Herbert's 1969 novel, titled Dune Messiah, is currently in development.

Dune: The Prophecy drops on November 17 on MAX while UK viewers can watch it on November 18 on Sky and NOW TV
