Diadora Relaunches Two Archival Models Championing Footballing Spirit and Casual Culture

This season, heritage sports label Diadora celebrates the impact football has had on global style -- bringing back two models from its archive: the Game, and the Tokyo.

The new project reinterprets the archival silhouettes through a contemporary lens, conserving their original identity but, through the involvement of a fresh set of creatives and models, pushes the pair into the modern day.

The Tokyo was launched in the ‘70s as a casual, footballing staple with a strong heritage on terraces across Diadora’s home nation of Italy. Here, the silhouette’s history is used as an influence, championing those who play the game as well as the spectators who have long embraced these models. Arriving in two colorways, “Black” and “Forest Green”, the offering embodies a new vision of the sport.

Elsewhere, the Game has also been reintroduced. Originally launched as a performance court shoe from the world of tennis, the model transitions from its roots and finds a foothold on the British terrace. The Game launches in four iterations, three of which are white-based, and the fourth, a black, designed as such for wearability and timelessness across any style.

Speaking on the concept of the project, producer Sam Le Roy explains, “We really wanted to present the pairs in their original context, utilizing a cast of models and creatives that push the boundary slightly. In the modern day, these pairs obviously pull from footballing heritage, but the reality is that the final wearers are very rarely using these pairs on the court or on the field. Paying homage to the original use-case was essential but through some more contemporary touches.” Adding, "These pairs both scream classic, they scream heritage, but at the same time, live on the cultural magpie, the tastemaker, and tomorrow’s classic. They transcend their original use-case and here evolve a step further, while never straying out of touch from the casual, court culture.
