Brooks Koepka has opened up about the chat that put an end to his notorious spat with Bryson DeChambeau.

The feud had become one of golf's most talked-about tiffs as the sporting world watched on as the two American golfers exchanged jibes over everything from their achievements to their physiques, turning their initial animosity into a full-blown rivalry. But it seems their move to the controversial LIV Golf series has been the catalyst for peace talks.

On the Pardon My Take podcast, Koepka, 34, revealed how the duo finally called a truce. When quizzed about whether the 'beef' was now history, Koepka confirmed in a laid-back manner that they've put it behind them, admitting the row had simply dragged on for too long.

"Yeah we're done," Koepka said. "Obviously the LIV conversation, that was kind of the big turning point, it was like 'hey we gotta work together with this' but also, for five years, we were like 'finally let's just move on'. It ran its course and I didn't want to beat him up too bad."

With both stars opting out of the PGA Tour for the lucrative Saudi-backed LIV League, it appears not only have Koepka and DeChambeau patched up their differences, but they are now on friendly terms, reports the Mirror.

It seems that the fiery feud was extinguished earlier than thought, with Koepka being the first to warmly congratulate DeChambeau when he joined him as a two-time US Open champion earlier this year. The pair showcased an unexpected unity when Koepka gave DeChambeau a cordial hug which followed his magnanimous message on social media that said: "Welcome to the club 2x US Open champ."

Their disagreement, which had been simmering for a while, reached a climax at the Dubai Desert Classic in 2019 when Koepka openly criticised DeChambeau's slow play. Koepka expressed frustration saying, "I just don't understand how it takes a minute and 20 seconds, a minute and 15 to hit a golf ball," insisting "It's not that hard."

DeChambeau shot back later, taking a swipe at Koepka's appearance during an ESPN Body Issue photo shoot. While streaming on Twitch, the California native remarked in jest: "I don't know if his genetics even make him look good to be honest ... I mean on Body Issue he didn't even have any abs, I can tell you that. I got some abs."

Koepka could not be outdone, however, and offered a cheeky comeback by showing off a picture of his impressive major trophy collection to date including two PGA Championships and two US Open titles. He jokingly retorted: "You were right. I am two short of a six-pack."

The intense rivalry between the golf stars escalated to such a height that they even squared off in a 2021 special edition of The Match, where Koepka, with five major championships to his name, emerged victorious. Social media sensation Jake Paul was even ready to lay down significant cash to see the duo settle their dispute in the ring, indicating just how heated the feud had become.

But when discussing the notorious discord on the Pat McAfee Show in August 2023, DeChambeau revealed that teaming together at the Ryder Cup played a part in easing tensions, he said: "At the Ryder Cup we squashed a lot of what was going on. We realised we were going to play for our country, and not for our own personal advantage or what not.

"There was beef back in the day and I think as time has gone on and we have got older, especially going to LIV, we realised that we were all in this together and we got to figure out a way to make it make sense for everyone."
