Swims, real name Jaten Dimsdale, released a new single, âBad Dreamsâ on Friday (September 13), while he performed âLose Controlâ, âThe Doorâ, and a cover of Rihanna and his close friend Mikky Ekkoâs 2013 single âStayâ at the MTV VMAs last week.
At the ceremony, he was nominated for four awards: Best New Artist, Song of the Year, Best Alternative, and PUSH Performance of the Year.
Swims played a handful of shows in the UK and Europe over the spring and summer this year, with his final European show being a set at Reading Festival â while he also gave a surprise acoustic performance at Reading train station ahead of his set.
Following his performance on the BBC Radio 1 Stage, he spoke to NME about his experience at the festival, saying: âThis crowd is so beautiful. As far as Iâve been hearing, thereâs a lot of kids get their exam things, and they come out here. You can see it â kids having their first liberating moments and stuff. It was a really beautiful thing to be a part of.â
He also discussed his rise to fame and the success of âLose Control,â explaining: âThe thing was, after we got it done, we knew it was going to change my life. I didnât know it was going to change it like this. I didnât know it was going to be this, but I knew it was going to work. But I think it was the first time that I felt honest.â
Also this year, Swims released the single âFuneralâ from the Bose x NME C24 mixtape, the latest in the iconic C-Series mixtape series. Showcasing some of the brightest new artists around, the likes of Laufey, Artemas, Royel Otis and Lola Young also feature after being hand-picked by the judges of C24âs new artist competition in association with the social music creation platform BandLab.
Meanwhile, NME and Bose have announced a limited edition vinyl release of the C24 mixtape. The hand-numbered, special edition orange vinyl will be given away for free, but to be in with a chance to get one fans need to enter the ballot on the Dawsons website here and tell NME what your favourite track on the mixtape is, and why.
Entries close at 11.59pm (BST) on September 26, and winners will be contacted by email.
