BBC Breakfast's Charlie Stayt aims 'narcissist' jibe at co-star in tense exchange

BBC Breakfast host Charlie Stayt couldn't resist a sly dig at his colleague, quipping that they were "narcissistic" during an awkward on-air moment. In the BBC studio this Thursday (May 9), the seasoned 61-year-old presenter and his co-host Naga Munchetty engaged viewers with discussions on the day's top stories.

The pair delved into pressing issues such as the alarming number of undiagnosed hepatitis C cases and former Paralympian John McFall's groundbreaking ambition to be the first astronaut with a disability. They also caught up with singer Gabrielle, celebrating her musical comeback and latest album release.

Later in the show, Charlie and Naga handed over to Morning Live hosts Gethin Jones and Michelle Ackerley, who previewed their own programme's content for the day.

Their lineup included EastEnders actor Max Bowen opening up about dealing with grief, the alarming trade of personal data to scammers, and new findings indicating a surge in narcissism.

Additionally, they hyped up the much-anticipated return of Doctor Who, set to hit screens again this weekend.

Gethin hinted that fans would discover which Doctor Who star had a childhood fear of Daleks, prompting Naga to admit: "Loads of people were scared of Daleks when they were children, it was the sensible thing to do."

The Welsh heartthrob quipped: "I wasn't of course, I was a brave child."

It was then that Charlie interjected with his cheeky remark.

He laughed: "Narcissism, Gethin. Narcissism in television presenters, I wonder maybe think about that, hey?"

Gethin appeared a little taken aback by the jibe, scratching his head as he squirmed in his seat.

Responding, the host said: "Well, yeah, we can have a long discussion about it at half past nine this morning, Charlie."

As the camera cut back to the studio, Naga gave Charlie a look of astonishment.

"It's a terrible thing, a terrible thing," she commented under her breath, before erupting into laughter. She added, still giggling: "That wasn't awkward at all," before swiftly handing over to weatherman Matt Taylor.
