The Chase's Mark Labbett, 58, 'should be the next James Bond' says girlfriend Hayley, 41

The Chase star Mark Labbett is celebrating his first anniversary with girlfriend Hayley Palmer. The 58-year-old, who is known as The Beast on the ITV quiz show, plans to mark the milestone with televison presenter Hayley with a down-to-earth date at a local steakhouse.

Mark, who is filming the 17th series of the popular quiz show, earned his nickname thanks to his 6ft 7in build and his hard stare, which is used to make contestants feel uncomfortable. But his surname is also to blame, as it sounds like "la bete", which is French for "the beast".

Smitten Hayley is completely bowled over by her boyfriend's looks and even thinks he could be James Bond. Speaking to The Sun, Hayley, 41, said: "Obviously I think he’s very handsome. His cheekbones are better than mine. He’s such a striking man, so tall. He should be the next James Bond."

She sweetly added: "He makes me feel amazing. If there are other people around, he always includes me and makes me feel really good. He’s so respectful and kind. I couldn’t be happier."

Mark reportedly wooed his stunning girlfriend with a Toby Carvery gold card which allows celebrities to eat free dinners at the restaurant chain.

However, the pair won't be tucking into a roast for the first anniversary and will instead visit a Beefeater in Hampshire.

Their chosen restaurant is located near to where Mark and Hayley had their first date in Southsea last year. Speaking to the publication, romantic Mark explained: "We found a bench in a peaceful spot by the beach and spent hours talking and getting to know each other, so we’ve decided to go back to celebrate our anniversary.

"As luck would have it, there’s a rather nice Beefeater near to where her parents live. They already know Hayley’s order — nachos and chips."

Despite Mark and Hayley's relationship going from strength to strength, the lovebirds don't plan to rush into getting married as they are "happy" with their relationship as it is.

However, TV brainbox Mark, who joined The Chase in 2009, is also encouraging his other half to focus on her glittering career.

He said: "Hayley is working hard on her career and I would never want to get in the way of that. She’s working incredibly hard. Her career is going from strength to strength. She needs to get her own show on a network — so ITV, Channel 4. give her a call!”

While Hayley added: "We just get on so well, and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. I feel good in myself — Mark is just my cherry on top. I’m incredibly happy."
