Officer hit and killed by semitruck driver in Utah County, police say

A Santaquin police officer was hit and killed by a semitruck driver Sunday morning, according to Spanish Fork Police, Fire & EMS.

The Utah Highway Patrol announced that Interstate 15 has been closed down, both northbound and southbound, at south Payson, and that drivers can expect “major” delays. Spanish Fork Police, Fire & EMS advised drivers to go toward West Mountain to get into Santaquin via back roads.

A news conference is scheduled to be held at noon Sunday.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday, Gov. Spencer Cox said the news of the officer’s death was “devastating.”

“Please keep this officer’s family in your prayers,” Cox wrote. “Our hearts are broken and we give our unending gratitude to all those who protect and serve.”
