ITV 1% Club viewers all say same thing as contestant makes embarrassing geography gaffe

1% Club: Contestant thought Manchester was in Scotland

The 1% Club viewers couldn't believe their ears as a contestant appeared not to know the basic geography of the United Kingdom. The young man called Toby was one of the players knocked out of the ITV show on the following question: An Engilshman (sic), an Irishman and a Scotsman walk into a bar. Which one is wrong?

While the answer was in fact "Englishman", which was spelt incorrectly for the purpose of the question, nobody expected Toby's answer when host Lee asked why he had picked Scotsman. "I honestly had no idea," he admitted.

"I didn't think that was a real word...Scotsman. I didn't think that was a real word." An astonished Lee enquired: "Did you not think it was a real country?"

"I thought Manchester was in Scotland until yesterday when apparently it's not," he explained, much to Lee's surprise. Clearly thinking it was a wind-up, he asked him outright: "Are you taking the Mickey?"

"No, no," he insisted. "Because I'm from London," he continued, leaving Lee even more slack-jawed. "Oh well, that's all right now. I didn't realise you're from London. We'll allow you to say anything," Lee joked.

Lee Mack asked the tricky question which saw 10 players knocked out on The 1% Club (Image: ITV) "I've never ever been up anywhere higher than London," Toby continued to explain. "So I had no idea.""I'm not gonna lie," Lee admitted. "When I saw you, I thought, 'Great, I can do loads of gags about the little kid who's still at school.' Now I doubt that you've ever been to school," the host said.Viewers were equally astonished by his remarks and took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their thoughts using the show's hashtag.2001joe_mendy questioned: "He seriously thought Manchester is in Scotland????? Jesus... #The1PercentClub." (sic)
