has five games remaining to convince and that he is the right manager to lead into a new era next season. United's new co-owners will reportedly delay deciding on the Dutchman's future in the Old Trafford dugout until the end of the campaign.

In just over three weeks, the Red Devils will know whether they will be playing European football next term and whether Ten Hag has lifted two major trophies in his first two years as boss.

His side's shortcomings in the Premier League and Champions League this season have been slightly brightened by his almost impeccable domestic cup record.

Ten Hag has won 18 of his 20 such matches as United manager, reaching three of a possible four finals and winning one of two so far, the 2023 Carabao Cup.

One of his cup defeats came in last year's first-ever Manchester derby FA Cup final as Manchester City edged a 2-1 win at Wembley Stadium.

United have the chance to earn redemption in a rematch on May 25, which could prove crucial for Ten Hag's hopes of retaining his status.

According to the Mail, INEOS haven't yet made a call on his future amid increasing uncertainty worsened by continued underwhelming performances and results.

United's new football hierarchy isn't expected to make a decision until after the FA Cup final, leaving Ten Hag with time to salvage a poor second season.

It's potentially an indicator that United are waiting to see if Ten Hag can secure a second piece of silverware in as many years and end the campaign on what would be an overwhelming high note.

Ensuring the Red Devils don't slip out of the European spots entirely will also likely be a significant factor, with Champions League qualification now out of the equation.

United will qualify for the Europa League no matter where they finish in the Premier League if they lift the FA Cup at the end of May.

If City retain their crown, fifth and sixth in the Premier League will qualify, with seventh earning a spot in the Conference League due to Liverpool - in next season's Champions League - winning the Carabao Cup.

United are currently sixth, one point ahead of Newcastle United in seventh and five ahead of eighth-place West Ham United, having played a game more than the Hammers.

But they face a tricky run-in, featuring trips to Crystal Palace and Brighton and Hove Albion and home clashes with European rivals Newcastle and title-chasing Arsenal.
