Manchester United target Thomas Tuchel would reportedly be interested in either managing the Red Devils or returning to Chelsea this summer as he prepares to leave Bayern Munich. The German, who has guided Bayern into the Champions League semi-finals this season, was dismissed by his current employers in February but will stay at the Allianz Arena until the campaign comes to an end.

United appointed their current manager Erik ten Hag almost two years ago, with the Dutchman leading his side to a fourth-place Premier League finish and FA Cup success during his maiden campaign in England. But the Red Devils have struggled for form this time around.

United were knocked out of the Champions League at the group stages and have virtually no chance of qualifying for Europe’s top-tier club competition next season after slumping to sixth in the Premier League table. And despite helping his team reach this season’s FA Cup final, Ten Hag appears to be on borrowed time at Old Trafford.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS purchased a minority stake in United earlier this year, with the businessman taking charge of football operations. And the 71-year-old has reportedly held talks with Tuchel over the top job at Old Trafford.

According to The Mirror, Tuchel would be interested in the United job should it become available. But he would also be willing to return to Stamford Bridge, despite being sacked by the club’s current owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali in September 2022.

Tuchel spent just over 18 months in west London and led the Blues to Champions League glory in May 2021 after they shocked Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side 1-0 in the final. And he backed that up with Club World Cup success in February 2022. But he was replaced with Graham Potter in the early stages of last season, with Chelsea going on to endure a dismal campaign.

Tuchel is said to be a great admirer of English football and believes he has unfinished business in the Premier League. And he has no intention of being out of management next season.

The 50-year-old, who took Paris Saint-Germain to the Champions League final in 2020, helped his team overcome Arsenal in the quarter-finals of Europe earlier this month, with Real Madrid now standing in the way of the German club and the showpiece event at Wembley.

But Bayern have underwhelmed in the Bundesliga this campaign, with Bayer Leverkusen already being crowned champions under the stewardship of former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso. And Tuchel could well be keen to get his teeth stuck into a new project as soon as possible.
