GMB's Susanna Reid forced to apologise as Yvette Cooper swears on air

GMB: Yvette Cooper told off by Susanna Reid for using expletive

An awkward blunder on Good Morning Britain caused Susanna Reid to step in. On Tuesday (April 23), Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper appeared on the morning show but accidentally swore live on television.

Yvette was on the morning programme to discuss the Rwanda bill but things went wrong when she made an awkward blunder. She expressed: "The home secretary himself has described this as bats**t," before Susanna, 53, jumped in and said: "Sorry, we can't use that word on breakfast television."

A sheepish-looking Yvette was forced to apologise as she put her hand to her mouth and said: "Sorry Susanna," before awkwardly smiling on the ITV show.

Viewers at home rushed to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their thoughts on the awkward slip-up as one person commented: "Yvette Cooper: even the home secretary himself has described [the rwanda plan] as bats**t #GMB." (sic)

Another social media user simply said: "Bats**t," alongside a crying with tears emoji, while somebody else asked: "What 'word' did Yvette Cooper just use? #gmb @gmb." (sic)

However, one person rushed to Yvette's defence as they said: "I think adults and kids who watch breakfast TV have heard the word "s**t" and worse before!" (sic)

On Monday's episode of GMB, Susanna and her co-host Richard Madeley upset viewers with some traumatic tales of injuries and deaths incurred on smart motorways.

It had been a difficult reunion for the pair this morning overall, after some tweeters took offence to their portrayal of accidents and deaths due to smart motorways.

The pair asked a bereaved woman whether her husband would "still have been alive today" if a hard shoulder had been available to him, which some had seen as "insensitive" questioning.

The graphic footage of a woman's scar after having spinal surgery due to a smart motorway injury also shocked some this morning.

It was accompanied by a hospital scan photo showing the damage caused.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
