Customs seize HK$100 million worth of electronics

The Customs and Excise Department on Wednesday said it seized a large batch of suspected smuggled electronic components, goods and waste on April 4, with a total estimated market value of about HK$100 million. Customs officers arrested a 53-year-old female suspect the following day. The Customs Department said on April 4, officers detected a suspected case of using an ocean-going vessel to smuggle goods to Malaysia at the Kwai Chung Container Terminals. Customs officers then mounted an operation and seized a large batch of suspected smuggled goods, including integrated circuits, computer servers, routers, together with a batch of electronic waste, inside a container which was declared as containing aluminum alloy aboard the vessel. An investigation was ongoing. The arrested woman was released on bail pending further investigation and the likelihood of further arrests was not ruled out.
