Marriott International’s Edition Hotels brand will be making its way to Japan and Malaysia with two new properties set to be developed in Kuala Lumpur and Niseko Village in Hokkaido.

The announcement follows Marriott International and YTL Hotels’ recent agreement to develop four new hotels across the two locations, comprising the two Editions alongside a new JW Marriott in Kuala Lumpur and a W Hotel in Niseko Village.

While no details of exactly when the properties are slated to open have been announced, the hotel groups have confirmed that the new Edition in Kuala Lumpur will be located next to the Kuala Lumpur City Centre, where the Petronas Towers are located, with 350 guestrooms, while the new JW Marriott will be located near KL Sentral. Aside from being part of the Niseko Village ski resort, no other details for the two Japan properties have been unveiled.

Speaking about the new developments as part of its partnership with Marriott International, YTL Hotels managing director, Tan Sri Dato’ Francis Yeoh, said: “Our relationship has been pivotal to the growth of YTL Hotels in Malaysia Asia and in the UK. We currently have 11 Marriott International hotels in our portfolio of 32 hospitality assets, making us one of Marriott’s largest owning companies with one of the longest relationships in Asia.”

Most recently, YTL Hotels re-opened the new JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, following a complete refurbishment of the 578-room property.

Edition Hotels, meanwhile, has been making significant waves in Asia-Pacific, notably with the announcement earlier this year that it will be making its debut in Japan in 2020 with The Tokyo Edition, Ginza and The Tokyo Edition, Toranomon. Next year, the brand expects to open seven new properties in Shanghai, Bangkok, Bodrum, Barcelona, New York, Los Angeles and Abu Dhabi.

Earlier this year Business Traveller reviewed The Sanya Edition, which opened in December, 2016.
