The only arrivals lounge still operated by United Airlines, located at San Francisco International Airport, has closed.

One Mile at a Time reports that the United Airlines Arrivals Lounge at SFO was scheduled to close its doors at 1200 on December 1. The airline said the closure is due to construction at the airport.

Travellers making connections at SFO can still use the United Polaris Lounge at the airport, but not passengers whose flights terminate in San Francisco.

Not only was the SFO arrivals lounge the sole such facility operated by United, it was the only airline-sponsored arrivals lounge in the US.

The lounge was intended for trans-Pacific travellers who wanted to shower or freshen up after overnight flight before heading to business meetings or other engagements.

Arrivals lounges are more common in European airports, for much the same reason – accommodating North American passengers arriving via red-eye flights. United, for example, shares an arrivals lounge at London Heathrow International Airport.

United announced no date or commitment to reopen the SFO arrivals lounge.
