Marriott has opened its second JW hotel in Kenya, with the unveiling of the JW Marriott Hotel Nairobi.

The 315-room property is located in the capital’s Westlands commercial district, and has become Kenya’s tallest hotel at 35 storeys.

Facilities include a swimming pool, spa, fitness centre, and five dining options ranging from  the all day dining MIDI Café & Patisserie to Myna Restaurant serving African cuisine, fine dining restaurant Mughal, and Hudson Tavern Bar & Grill for live sports.

The hotel also offers a total of 1,700 sqm of meeting and events space, including an 800-capacity pillarless ballroom.

The 31st floor Mr. Pang Sky Bar & Lounge will also open later this year (alongside 51 serviced apartments), offering modern Pan-Asian cuisine, an outdoor terrace, and two private dining spaces including a whiskey library.

Interiors have been designed by George Wong, and are inspired by “the spirit and story of an African adventure, with an earth-toned colour palette of savannah browns, Maasai reds, cultural terracotta, and safari green incorporated throughout its spaces”.

The hotel joins the JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge which opened last year.

In November 2022 Marriott announced plans to open 30 hotels across Africa by the end of 2024, with upcoming properties including The Ritz-Carlton Rabat, Dar Es Salam.

Commenting on the news Helen Leighton, vice president, luxury brands and communications, Marriott International, Europe, Middle East and Africa, said:

“As JW Marriott expands its presence in Africa, the brand enriches the region with a legacy of luxurious hospitality, seamlessly weaving together its dedication to holistic well-being and fostering meaningful connections throughout the continent.

“JW Marriott Hotel Nairobi perfectly embodies the city’s contemporary yet mindful urban lifestyle. The property combines the warmth of African hospitality with serene spaces where guests can disconnect from distraction, focus on the present moment, and reconnect with what matters most to them.”

Marriott recently announced plans to open the JW property in Greece, with the JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa expected to open in 2025 along Marathi Beach in the outskirts of the town of Chania.
