Mustafa Ali used a politician gimmick after leaving WWE, and he recently revealed that he wanted to do it in the company. Ali portrayed the character after he exited the company on the independent scene as well as in TNA, and he explained to Chris Van Vliet on Insight why he was glad that he was able to do it on the independent scene.
“I’m so thankful for this independent run because I really wanted to do this politician character on WWE programming and ultimately I wasn’t allowed to do it,” Ali said (per Wrestling Inc). “But doing it on the independents, I found that, like, there’s a range, like some people really like it, some people don’t like it, and then there’s some people that think that I’m pushing some sort of political narrative. So, not that I’m shying away from it, but I’m definitely evaluating it.”
Ali finished up with TNA for the time being back in August and announced he was “standing down” from the X-Division after he lost the title to Mike Bailey at Slammiversary.
