Anthony Kim insists “it’s just a matter of time” before he starts competing for titles again despite a disappointing year. The American has made a significant leap up the World Golf rankings and remains optimistic that he is “ahead of schedule”.

Kim surprised many when he was tempted into a return to competitive action by LIV Golf at the start of the year. However, the season has not entirely gone to plan.

He has played as a wildcard and finished in the top 40 of the 54-player league just once all year. At last week’s Asian Tour International Series in Qatar, he finished a tie for 37th, the first time he had made the cut in competitive action since 2012.

The 39-year-old is hoping for a much better 2025 and believes he is close to rekindling his best form.

Asked by Gulf News what a successful 2025 might look like, Kim responded: “Contending on Sundays.

“I know a lot of people have probably seen my last year and don't think that's possible, but I think it’s going to happen. I 100 per cent believe in myself, and I think it's just a matter of time.

“[The game plan is to] just keep doing exactly what I'm doing. I'm working with more focus than I ever have.

“When I played professionally in my 20s, I didn’t know what I was doing, how to prepare, or how to practice – I know all of these things now after taking such a long time away from the game.

“I think that’s the benefit of not having played, is watching and analysing what I did before. I made so many mistakes before, and I’m trying to clean that up now.”

Kim’s wildcard status protects him from relegation out of the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league. However, chiefs must now decide whether they wish to keep him in the same capacity, assign him to a team, or release him altogether.

Reports had previously suggested that a deal had been struck between both parties, but that has not been confirmed. Kim is keeping his cards close to his chest.

"I don’t know what’s going on,” he continued. “I’ll just let whatever news comes out come from LIV Golf.”

Kim’s performance in Qatar saw him leap a remarkable 2,281 ranking places to 2,314th. He had dropped so far in part due to LIV Golf not carrying ranking points.
