Man Utd transfer news: Solskjaer given boost in pursuit of Mandzukic
According to The Sun, Mandzukic has halved his £300,000-a-week wage demands in order to secure a move away from Turin.
The 33-year-old veteran has yet to feature at all this season under new boss Maurizio Sarri and is keen on finding an exit in the January window.
United only signed three players during the summer and the club are expected to use the upcoming window to add several players to Solskjaer’s squad.
Mandzukic reps have been in contact and are willing to change their demands
It is understood that the club are looking at signing at least three new players and finding a replacement for Romelu Lukaku has been made a priority by the club.
And while Mandzukic nearly made the switch during the summer, the report claims his salary demands scuppered the deal.
However, after a change of heart the former Croatian international is now willing to accept a £150,000-a-week deal, which could see him swap Italy for England in a few months' time.
“His reps have been in contact and are willing to change their demands,” an Old Trafford source told The Sun.
"There will be other bonuses factored into the deal. It looks like one that could get done now.
"Ole has long been an admirer of him and he is someone we have wanted for a number of years.
"His experience could prove vital for the younger players in the squad. He is also a proven goalscorer."
Since letting Lukaku and Aleix Sanchez join Inter Milan on a transfer and loan deal respectively, United have failed to see players step up and score goals this season.
United have only managed to score 10 goals in nine Premier League matches this season, despite winning their opening game 4-0 against Chelsea.
And while it is understood Mandzukic could be available for just £10million in January, the striker’s prolific days appear to be behind him.
Last season Mandzukic only recorded 10 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions.
And his last 20-goal-season came back in 2014/15 when he managed the feat after making 43 appearances for Atletico Madrid.
