Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is interested in signing Callum Wilson among four other players from the British Isles.

Solskjaer splashed £150million in the summer transfer window, bringing in three highly-rated British players.

Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James have settled into life well at Old Trafford, proving to be among the top performers so far this campaign.

Solskjaer was not fiscally able to sign the other players he desired, though, leaving an ever-extending transfer shortlist in his office at Carrington.

The sale of Romelu Lukaku and loan departure of Alexis Sanchez have left United short in attack while Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera have not been replaced in midfield.

Solskjaer wants to sign players with a strong work ethic who are proud to play for the club, with British heritage seemingly seen as an advantage.

According to ESPN, the Norwegian tactician has a five-man shortlist consisting of players from the British Isles.

Bournemouth striker Wilson is a surprise inclusion on the list despite the Yorkshireman’s impressive scoring record for the Cherries.

The mobile marksman has 36 goals in 96 Premier League appearances for the exiting mid-table outfit and has been linked to Chelsea in the past.

The 27-year-old has recovered commendably from knee injuries but signed a contract extension at Vitality Stadium until 2023 in the summer, making his market value high.

Other lesser-known players on the list include Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff, who United chased in the summer only to baulk at the Magpies' £50m asking price, and Stoke City centre-back Nathan Collins, who hails from Ireland.

Longstaff has been impressive in a holding midfield role for The Toon and is seen as a long-term replacement to Nemanja Matic while Collins, 18, became the youngest ever player to captain Stoke earlier this season.

Jadon Sancho and James Maddison feature on the list but both players are seen as blue-chip investments, especially after the former signed a contract extension with Borussia Dortmund in July.

Maddison, meanwhile, is “happy” at Leicester, and would cost between £70m to £80m according to the report.
