Man Utd news: Manchester United have confirmed a member of their backroom team was taken ill (Image: GETTY)

Manchester United are in Australia for pre-season and are preparing to face Perth Glory and Leeds Down Under.

However the club have confirmed that one of their backroom team have been taking ill and is being treated by the club's doctors.

A statement released by the club read: "A member of our backroom staff was taken ill overnight and has been sent to hospital by our club doctor for further treatment.

"We request that medical confidentiality is respected."

Perth-based reporter Amelia Broun tweeted: “BREAKING: A @ManUtd staff member has been taken to Royal Perth Hospital. “UPDATE: the man in his 50s is in a stable condition after a suspected overdose at Crown Towers.”

United arrived in Australia earlier this week after a turbulent few weeks in the transfer window.

Paul Pogba did finally arrive back at the club's Carrington HQ, but only on the morning of the flight to Australia.

There were fears Pogba would snub the tour altogether after his agent Mino Raiola confirmed they were working on a transfer with Real Madrid and Juventus making moves.

United have also struggled to sign marquee names despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking to revamp his squad.

So far deals for Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have been complete but they remain on the hunt for a midfielder and a centre-back.

United are currently in talks with Inter Milan over a deal for Romelu Lukaku and Madrid are expected to launch a move for Pogba.
