Manchester United legend Patrice Evra has called for Ruben Amorim to hand the captaincy back to Harry Maguire, suggesting that Bruno Fernandes should be relieved of the role.
Since July 2023, Fernandes has led the team after Erik ten Hag made the decision to pass the armband to him, following a period where Maguire was frequently absent from the starting lineup due to Ten Hag's selections.
However, with Maguire's form on the upswing and his recent contract extension until 2026 confirmed by Amorim in a press conference, Evra took to Instagram to voice his opinion that Maguire deserves to reclaim the leadership position.
Amorim had praised Maguire's resilience and highlighted the need for leaders like him in the squad, saying: "Harry Maguire: [we are] going to trigger our option. I spoke with him this morning and I told him that he has to improve his game on the pitch.
"We need him a lot and also he has to improve as a leader, because we all know the situation that he had here but we need him a lot in this moment so we are going to trigger happily the option for Harry.
"He (Maguire) coped very well with his struggles and when you look at our team, we are starving for leaders on the pitch.
"He is a leader, he has to improve that part, he has to improve his game, so we are happy to continue with Harry."
"Give him the armband back! ! ! ! " Evra insisted on social media.
"After all he been through showing resilience, leadership."
