Gary Lineker has landed another joke regarding Harry Kane's comments in reaction to the BBC pundit branding England's performance against Denmark "s**t". In the build-up to tonight's final Group C match against Slovenia, Kane's press conference was reviewed again in the BBC studio in Berlin.

Lineker was joined by Alan Shearer, Micah Richards and Frank Lampard as part of the Beeb's coverage of France vs Poland in Group D.

But they took time at the top of the show to look ahead to England's third match at Euro 2024 following two underwhelming performances against Serbia and Denmark.

Lineker and Shearer landed themselves in hot water with their brutally honest assessment of the 1-1 draw against Denmark last time out.

Kane respectfully offered his thoughts on the pair of ex-England international's criticism during a press conference last week.

"I would never disrespect any ex-player. All I would say is remember what it is like to wear the shirt and that their words are listened to," Kane said.

"Some of the lads, I don't know how many, but we do hear it. We all want to win a major tournament and I'm sure they want us to win a major tournament.

"Being as helpful as they can and building the lads up with confidence would be a much better way of going about it."

The Three Lions are among the favourites to win this summer's Euro 2024 tournament and you can get your hands on the brand new Nike home and away kits before the first whistle.

Lineker has dropped a few quips in the aftermath of Kane's comments, including during the BBC's coverage of Italy and Croatia's draw on Monday night.

He joked: "If Albania fail to win tonight, England are officially through to the last 16.

"Because even if they lose tomorrow they will go through as one of the best third-placed teams. I wish people would stop being so critical of them."

The BBC host was at it again this evening. Following a replay of Kane's press conference, Lineker left Shearer and Lampard laughing by stating: "We'll do as we're told..."

Despite the cheeky jibe, Lampard hailed Kane for how the England captain carried himself, claiming he had been in his shoes before.

"Yeah, I think I would've done [said the same thing as Kane]. I've been there and I've said similar. I don't mind the interview. I think it shows a bit of grit, which is what we need at the minute," Lampard explained.

"I think Declan Rice spoke in the same vein. The reality will be - and they'll know this - and I saw it in the reactions to the Denmark game when they sat on the pitch, they know what's happening.

"So, a little bit of a reaction there, harness the opinions in the right way. It's normal there are opinions.

"You're playing for England, and there's a big responsibility that comes with that at the top end of the game. So it's good, I like the way he spoke like that."
