is reportedly prepared to leave this summer and is said to have informed the club that he would like ‘reasonable offers’ to be entertained by the higher powers at Anfield. The Reds are expected to shake up their ranks this summer, and rejigging their backline could quickly become a priority.

With leaving the Reds at the end of the season, the summer transfer window will be overseen by new manager who will take the next steps in Liverpool's rebuild.

The current Feyenoord boss will be keen to stamp his authority on the squad, both in terms of tactics and personnel. Outgoings are anticipated ahead of next season, with Luis Diaz, and among a host of names linked with moves elsewhere.

The Reds are already preparing for the departure of Joel Matip, who is out of contract in June, and a replacement centre-back is being prioritised. Though Liverpool could find themselves in the market for a second central defender if Gomez is granted his exit wish.

According to Anfield Watch, the England international has indicated that he is ‘open to a new challenge’ and keen for any bids for his services to be entertained by the Reds. Gomez is not expected to push for a move but the 26-year-old is claimed to have made it clear that he's ready for a change if a club meet his price tag.

The former Charlton defender would favour a return to London if the opportunity arose, and his homegrown status and immense versatility means that it is unlikely that the defender will be short of suitors.

Gomez can be deployed anywhere across the backline and has also been taken outside of his comfort zone when tasked with playing as a No. 6 in midfield – and emerged with plenty of credit from that experiment.

Arne Slot

The defender's ability to play in multiple positions will prove tricky to replace and his willingness to depart will be a blow to Slot as he prepares for life in the Premier League.

Any sale of Gomez would however raise funds for a replacement to arrive and acquiring a successor will be an important task for the newfound team of Slot, Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes to resolve in the transfer market.
