downed eight pints with fans before being told off by UEFA officials for being too loud in the mixed zone after the German club’s win over . Carragher spent the game with the fans before feeding back his experience on CBS Sports.

The broadcast took a turn when it became apparent how much alcohol the pundit had consumed. Carragher and Peter Schmeichel were deployed to conduct post-match interviews in the mixed zone but were warned several times over their noise level.

Before interviewing Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, a merry Carragher revealed that Dortmund fans bought him eight pints. He also hadn’t eaten since 2:30pm.

"I haven't had too much to eat. I had a cheeseburger at about half two, when I got to the hotel,” he told presenter Kate Abdo.

“It might explain why I might be slurring my words! I've had about eight pints in the Yellow Wall, I've got a new family, a new family of friends, we all look after each other. I gave them a few bob after half-time!"

Carragher and Schmeichel continued to broadcast from the mixed zone. The ex-defender asked how Alessandro Del Piero had performed as his in-studio replacement before being told off by UEFA staff.

“We have been told to be quiet,” Schmeichel said to a shocked Carragher, who responded: “Are we being too loud? We’re being too loud in here or in the studio?”

Schmeichel laughed before informing his colleague: “Whatever you say is going out in every interview in the world.”

Carragher continued: “We’re in a mixed zone here. We’re that loud that everybody is looking at us and telling us to shut up! But let’s just keep it going...”

Abdo interrupted to make fun of Carragher some more, claiming that Del Piero had been better than Carragher and that the former Italy international had formed a new punditry duo with Micah Richards.

But Carragher jumped back in: “Listen, we’re being told to wrap this up because we’re taking your airtime away. We’re more entertaining on the road than yourselves. But you need more air time.”

Schmeichel concluded: “I’ve worked for four years to make a good relationship with every UEFA person and they’re all standing behind the camera telling us to be quiet. So this guy (Carragher) comes on the road once, drinks eight pints and ruins that relationship.”
