’s side thought that they had completed a sensational comeback at Villa Park on Saturday after going into the half-time break 2-0 down following an own goal from Marc Cucurella and Morgan Rogers’ exquisite solo effort.

Noni Madueke halved the deficit in the 62nd minute before Conor Gallagher levelled the score with nine minutes left on the clock, curling a glorious strike into the top corner from 25 yards. The Blues looked to have secured all three points in the 96th minute when Disasi nodded home from close range after Villa failed to clear their lines.

However, VAR felt that Benoit Badiashile had fouled Diego Carlos when winning the ball before putting the cross in for Disasi to score. The Chelsea star was adjudged to have pushed the defender in the back to give himself the upper hand when jostling for possession. Chelsea were furious with the decision though and swarmed around Pawson to plead their case at full time.

The Argentine was furious with the decision and took aim at Pawson when speaking to TNT Sports at full time, saying: “Everyone that was watching the game will feel disappointed. Two different things the referee said it was a foul and disallowed the goal and then going to the VAR to confirm.

"The referee is unbelievable and it's ridiculous. It is difficult to accept, these type of things in the semi-final [FA Cup against Man City] two weeks ago it was handball and it was no penalty, the referee he didn't check it. It is painful as it has damaged English football and I think Villa players and their fans didn't understand why the goal was disallowed.”
