Kevin Young had a clear check list when he started the job as BYU’s new basketball coach.
Step one: Retain the core players on his roster.
Step two: Start adding pieces around it.
Less than a month on the job, Young’s first task is complete as he kept guards Dallin Hall and Richie Saunders in Provo. Now, he is beginning to make the roster his own.
Young added former Utah center Keba Keita this week. Keita should be a good fit for the rim-rolling center Young had been looking for in his NBA-style offense. Keita averaged over eight points a game last year and served as a rim protector. He had over a block a game in the Pac-12.
He followed his former assistant coach Chris Burgess. Burgess left Utah to join Young’s staff last week. He primarily coaches the front court players.
