With 126 professional exhibitors and more than 16,000 visitors, the Singapore annual yacht show can easily be considered as the landmark event of its kind in Asia.  Growing more in popularity each consecutive year, 2019 the Yacht Show took place in Singapore’s ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove, the venue host since the inauguration of the show 9 years ago. Visitors from all over the world could find here a first-class opportunity to meet boat owners, supercar aficionados and trade professionals in the yachting and luxury lifestyle industries.
The end of this year of The SYS edition, we invite Roar "Sam" Nilsen, founder of Seaborne International and Chumphon Marina Shipyards, located in the Gulf of Thailand, halfway between Bangkok and Phuket.
We asked Sam about his Yacht Show experiences this past weekend at the event in Singapore; “We had the opportunity to meet with key investors in the marina and yachting industry,” Sam says,” mainly of Chinese origin. As we are currently running projects in both the Gulf of Thailand and the Maldives, we specifically targeted to meet with companies that are already actively investing in these markets.”

Nilsen also commented on his meeting with Mr. Peter Tay, the brainchild behind the ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove and the Founding Chairman of the Superyacht Singapore Association (SSA): “They did an amazing job in establishing Singapore as the Yachting hub of South East Asia through the development of the marina and the properties surrounding it.”
Regarding the Seaborne International group, Sam Nilsen stated:  “Our group is looking at a broad picture, the development of three marinas in the Gulf of Thailand and one on the island of Ifuru in The Maldives. The Maldives project is in co-operation with Ibrahim Shafeeg. There is a healthy competition between developers, with for instance the Singha group being active in The Maldives. We aim to reach out to some of these development companies to evaluate potential opportunities. We are boating people, “Nilsen concludes;” and boating people tend to reach out to each other and grow communities. As long as we can come up with unique and advanced solutions in yacht design and marine living, we will remain successful in developing major property projects in each Marina.

We consider ourselves lucky to work with world-renowned designers such as Stefano Carugno. Stefano’s last design, the Gloss 65  “adventure” is a typical example of such creativity and craftsmanship. The yacht is designed with the Asian market in mind to combine speed, flexibility, and luxury, ideal for the new shipyards coming up in Asia.”
