Gemfields, a leading purveyor of sustainably mined emerald, ruby, and amethyst, is teaming up withDan Tobin Smith and creative studio the Experience Machine to present a visually striking installation experience during the London Design Festival next month.

Entitled “VOID,” the multisensory installation will showcase large-scaleprojections of a selection of Mozambican rubies and Zambian emeralds from Gemfields’ mines.

The gems’ surfaces will be so greatly magnified in the projections, they will become “abstract, galaxy-like structures,” meant to “showcase the expanded space inside gemstones and map the blurring boundaries between nature and design,” according to a statement about the event.

The emeralds and rubies will be accompanied by other semiprecious gems. And the room will be scored by electronic drone choir NYX, via music that thickly layers female voices.

“The installation considers the concept of containment and scale, employing spatial design to explore the natural borders formed within these unique mineral formations,” reads the statement. “By translating a moving image into a contained physical form and scoring the experience with harmonized layers of the human voice…visitors are invited to enter within the portrait of a gemstone’s natural inclusion.”

The exhibition will be held at the Collins Music Hall in London, Sept. 14–22.
