The new series of is nearing its release date and fans can’t wait to see a brand new cast take on the roles of the Royal Family. Olivia Coleman is set to play Queen Elizabeth II and a series of spoiler photos and trailers have seen the star settle into her role. However, it seems the real Queen won’t be tuning in this year and royal biographer Robert Lacey thinks he knows why.

The Crown has been running for almost three years after the series made its debut on Netflix back in 2016.

The Netflix drama has proven incredibly popular since its release with the show based upon the early right on Queen Elizabeth II.

However, in an interview with Radio Times, Robert Lacey, royal biographer and historical consultant to The Crown claimed the show isn’t so popular with the Royal family.

The biographer went on to speculate why the royals don’t watch the series.

When asked how the show compares to reality, Robert claimed the series actually “gets closer to the truth” than any royal PR exercise ever could.

He stated the Royal Family “always deny” watching the series and suspects this could be why.

The biographer began: “Whenever any of them are asked about The Crown, they always deny watching it.

“And that may be because imagination can convey a truth that the facts themselves cannot.

“I would say that The Crown comes the closest to actually re-creating the reality of royal life.

“It is not a documentary, but there is an enormous team of historical researchers who examine every detail intensely, to make sure that what we see people feeling and thinking on screen feels right.”
