Squid Game (Season 2): Official trailer

Netflix fans haven't been able to get enough of Squid Game season two and now the hit show has broken a huge new record. The second instalment has amassed a huge 126.2 million views since it released on December 26, more than any Netflix series has ever achieved in that amount of time.

It topped Netflix's charts with the biggest debut ever with 68 million views in four days and picked up a further 58.2 million views in its first full week.

Upon release, it entered the list of most popular non-English language series but has now gone from number seven to number two, only being beaten by season one of the hit show.

With plenty of time to beat the record set by the first series, season two will no doubt hit the number one spot in no time. The second season picked up three-years after Gi-hun (Lee Jung-Jae) won Squid Game and gave up going to the US.

Instead he returned with a new resolution in mind as he dived into the survival game once again with new participants trying to win the huge cash prize.

The new characters included pregnant Jun-hee (portrayed by Jo Yuri) and the downtrodden crypto influencer Myung-gi (Yim Si-wan).

Season one took Netflix by storm by becoming the most-watched series of 2021, topping the charts in 94 countries across the globe.

Squid Game attracted more than 142 million member households and 1.65 billion viewing hours in its first four weeks, surpassing Bridgerton as the service's most-watched show.

A third and final season has been confirmed to air on the streaming platform this year although an official date has yet to be released.

The third instalment was announced in July last year, with Squid Game mastermind Hwang Dong-hyuk putting up a caption on social media.

He expressed: "I am beyond excited to be writing this letter to announce the date for Season 2 and share the news of Season 3, the final season."

He teased further about the conclusion: "The fierce clash between [Gi-hun and Front Man's] two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year."

Squid Game season two is available to stream on Netflix now. Season three will air in 2025
