Vernon Kay has told Jeremy Vine to "behave" himself and wind his "neck in" after he shared a controversial opinion. In a recent episode of Vernon's BBC Radio 2 show, co-star Jeremy revealed that Dr Sarah Jarvis was appearing on the show to explain how she has the "bones of a 90-year-old", despite living a healthy life.

He also revealed that Dr Jarvis, who was diagnosed with osteoporosis, had "not had a croissant for 40 years", prompting Vernon to ask what was "wrong" with the much-loved French pastry. Jeremy replied: "Well, it's bad. It's unhealthy, isn't it?" Jeremy continued: "Ah, it's full of just garbage, yeah; terrible."

Vernon then suggested that a croissant could be enjoyed in "moderation", but Jeremy didn't agree, saying: "No, you don't eat poison in moderation."

The former Family Fortunes star exclaimed: "Behave yourself! Wind your neck in, Vine! A croissant? Poison?" However, Jeremy doubled down on his view and said you "wouldn't drink petrol in moderation".

Vernon joked: "That's because it's non-edible, Jeremy; that's why. Don't ever...If I ever catch you stood outside a BP with a petrol pump in your mouth, I will give you a thrashing."

The NHS says osteoporosis is a condition that weakens the bones, meaning they break more easily.

It's usually only diagnosed when somebody breaks a bone, with the most common injuries being broken wrists, hips or vertebrae.

Vernon's household seems to be a bastion of healthy living, as his wife and Strictly Come Dancing star Tess Daly revealed on the Good Food podcast that they have outlawed the word 'diet' in their home.

She believes diets aren't "not sustainable in the long term" and prefers a "healthy nutritional meal plan".

Tess also shared her philosophy: "Moderation is everything, isn't it?"

She added: "The minute we start to deny ourselves a little bit of what we fancy, whether that's a chocolate bar in the afternoon, or a burger, if we start to deny ourselves it becomes a mind game, there's just no point playing that game."

Hello! magazine gave fans a sneak peek into the family's kitchen in 2021, where Tess disclosed Vernon's culinary skills with dishes like spaghetti bolognese and sea bass with chive mash. Tess herself whips up "lots of Mexican stuff", Asian-style stir-fries, and chicken casserole.
