Top Gear: Paddy McGuinness shares update on Freddie

Top Gear presenters Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris are reuniting for a brand new road trip show. The BBC series - with the working title Paddy and Chris: Road Trippin - will see the duo travelling around Europe.

During their travels, they will look at how people in Europe approach life as they get older, to try to uncover the "secrets to living a long and full life". The pair will head to Sweden, Greece and Switzerland and "take a deep dive to discover some of the most brilliant mid-life secrets on the planet", according to the official release.

It is their first project together since Top Gear was pulled by the BBC following a horror crash, which left co-host Freddie Flintoff seriously injured. Paddy seems excited to be pairing up with Chris again. In a statement, the 50-year-old said: "I’m very much looking forward to getting back on the road with Chris Harris.

"Not so much looking forward to sharing a confined space with him. He doesn’t believe in deodorant’, he joked. "On the plus side he’ll give me something to laugh at along the way. Bring it on!"

For his part, Chris, 49, said: "Paddy’s idea of long-haul travel is driving from Bolton to Blackpool, so this European road-trip should be a real eye-opener for both of us. When we’re finished debating the merits of literally everything we encounter, viewers will hopefully take something rewarding away from our deep-dive into the secrets of human longevity – but I’m just hoping my interest in the subject doesn’t dwindle as each mile goes by in Paddy’s company!"

Top Gear was pulled after Freddie, 46, crashed on the programme's test track at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey in December 2022.

The former cricket player, who joined the show in 2019, was left with facial injuries and broken ribs after the smash, and had to be airlifted to hospital.

In September last year, Freddie was photographed for the first time in public since the accident and had visible facial injuries as he visited the England cricket squad for their one-day international series against New Zealand.

In March this year Paddy admitted he hadn't spoken to  Freddie for "ten months".

According to The Sun, Paddy has admitted communication has "gone quiet" with his former co-star.

"Who knows what he [Freddie] must be going through. I still see his wife and we still chat, and we have the same barber, and it's all lovely," he told the publication.

"I messaged Fred recently saying, 'Look, I can’t begin to think what you’re going through but rather than me bombarding you with loads of messages, which can be annoying, if you can’t be a***d with that, I’m always here. I hope you’re well and please God, I’ll see you soon'."

"You just can’t begin to put yourself into his shoes. No one can know what’s going on in his head," he said.
