Eurovision: Announcer excited confirming French contestant

fans were all saying the same thing on Thursday night as the semi-finals continued. viewers saw hosts Malin Akerman and Petra Mede introduce the upcoming sixteen acts at the start of the show.

Malin said: “Tonight, new memories will be created for people watching us all over the world as 16 competitors take the stage. But you’ll also get the opportunity to hear three of the countries that are already qualified for the final, that is-”

However, the international competition couldn’t help but take a cheeky jibe at France when informing people of the qualified countries. Viewers saw three women who appeared to be competing in a pageant with sashes on them representing certain countries.

They were Italy, Spain and France, although when the last person screamed France, it wasn’t long before viewers got the joke. The screeching was in reference to the 2018 viral video of the Miss Universe pageant.

Eva Colas was introducing her country’s name when her voice cracked, resulting in her shrieking the word France. Since then, the clip has been a viral phenomenon with many people finding it hilarious, prompting American show SNL to create parody skit of the moment.

According to the latest odds, it looks as though Croatia is the current front winner to win the competition

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "Croatia look set to take Sweden by storm this weekend, with Baby Lasagna set to head into Saturday's final as the odds-on favourite to go all the way."

He added: "That being said, we're starting to see more interest in Ireland, who - as a result - have been slashed from 14/1 to just 9/1 in the last 24 hours."

Eurovision is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
