Red Eye: Season 1 trailer

viewers threatened to "switch-off" only minutes into the ITV drama starting on Sunday evening (May 5) over "poor sound quality", complaining there was "too much background music". The six-part series follows Dr Matthew Nolan, played by Richard Armitage, who after a trip to China, is immediately extradited back to Beijing where he is accused of murder.

Although Matthew was involved in an accident while on a work trip to China, it doesn’t appear to be his fault and he soon boards his flight back to the U.K. Upon landing, he is dramatically escorted into a separate room in the U.K. airport and is accused of cold-blooded murder.

Episode three aired tonight and follows Dr. Nolan as he recounts the event in Beijing. Meanwhile, DC Hana Li, played by Jing Lusi, is a British police officer who is assigned to escort Dr. Nolan back to China, but the task isn't so straightforward.

When incidents start occurring on board the flight, Hana finds herself in the midst of a conspiracy, and in the latest instalment, she continues to unpick the events on-board the flight.

Meanwhile, her half-sister Jess Li (Jemma Moore), who is a scrappy journalist, investigates a mysterious company.

Despite the ITV drama overflowing with twists and turns, some viewers were "annoyed" by the lack of sound quality due to too much background music.

Red Eye viewers wasted no time in taking to social media to air their frustrations. Within seven minutes of the episode starting, one person wrote on X (): "Does #RedEye have music all the way through every bloody episode? @ITV." (sic)

While another added: "#Redeye Dialogue is painful". A third exclaimed: "First bit of #redeye where they don't whisper and they've stuck some s*** loud music over the top of it." (sic)

"This is a load of s*** why am I still watching it #redeye," said one viewer. "And we're starting Red Eye this week by doing the time warp. #RedEye," added another. (sic)

"Nothing about tonight makes sense. So True about the whole episode #RedEye," stated one viewer. While one unimpressed viewer chimed in with: "I’m on the second ep of #redeye and it’s the worst thing I’ve seen in some time. Just annoyed I need to watch it to see what happens."

Red Eye currently airs on ITV at 9pm on Sunday and is available to stream on ITVX.
